In the world of gaming, the Pokemon franchise is one of the famous and reputable franchises ever.

In this article, we go down memory lane as we review all main Pokemon games in their order of release.

Note: this list excludes games not part of the Pokemon main series, such as Pokemon Go, Battle Revolution, etc.

19. Pokemon Red, Green & Blue

Japan The Pokemon Red, Green & Blue were the first installment of the Pokemon franchise to be released in 1996 in Japan only.

It was developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Gameboy.

The game is played from an overhead perspective where players control the series protagonist Ash, attempting to become the Indigo League champion by defeating several Gym Leaders and the Elite four.

The game received positive reviews from game critics, especially the multiplayer mode.

It is one of the best selling role-playing games.

18. Pokemon Red & Blue: U.S

Pokemon Red & Blue are remakes of the 1996 installment.

It was released in the U.S in 1998 and was the first Pokemon game to be released outside Japan.

It was released for the Game Boy and Nintendo 3Ds console.

15. Pokemon Crystal

Pokemon Crystal is an improved version of the Gold and Silver installment.

8. Pokemon Black and White

There are 156 new Pokemon, a seasonal cycle, and rotation battles.

7. Pokemon Black and White 2

The success of Pokemon Black and White prompted the release of the sequel, Black and White 2, which was the first-ever sequel in the Pokemon game series.

Its event is set two years after the happenings of Pokemon Black and White on the western side of the Unova region.

Black and White 2 features 300 new Pokemon and a new game mechanic that allows players involved actively in the filming of a movie with multiple characters and Pokemon.

It was released in 2012, and by 2013 it had peaked at over 7.8 million copies sales worldwide.

6. Pokemon X and Y

3. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
