Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Review

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is the 15th episode of the Call of Duty series and the 5th release of the Call of Duty sub-series.

It was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision in 2018.

Despite being the first first-person shooter game in the Call of Duty series to not have a single-player campaign mode, Black Ops 4 became the best-selling digital launch in Activision’s history following its release.

In this article, Call of Duty Black Ops 4’s storyline, gameplay, player modes, and other facts about the game will be reviewed.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Storyline

The Black Ops 4 has two different main multiplayer modes, each with its independent plot.

Blackout

Blackout has a futuristic plot.

In 2043, Jessica, a U.S army specialist, was considered dead during an undercover mission while ‘Ruin’ and ‘Battery,’ her friends survived.

Two years later, Savannah, Jessica’s sister, recruits ten soldiers, including Ruin and Battery, for a top-secret project.

Ruin confronted an individual who had warned him about the mission; the individual turned out to be Jessica, who also had unknowingly survived the mission.

Her sister, Savanna, now has to eliminate the ten specialists she had hired.

Completing missions uncover the rest of the story as four individuals called ‘archetypes’ were revived.

Zombie

The Zombie Mode, Black Ops 4, offers two different storylines; Chaos Story and Aether Story.

This makes it the first game to feature two separate storylines for Zombies.

Chaos Story

Treasure hunter, Alistair’s daughter, Scarlett, intends to find her father kidnapped by a cult known as ‘The Order.’

However, The Order possesses a “Sentinel Artifact” that turns people into zombies

These zombies and The Order cult members, Scarlett and her partners look to track down, as they also look to save Alistair.

The story takes place at the RMS Titanic, in ancient Rome.

Aether Story

A member of the Primus crew known as Richtofen, is trapped in the past as the Shadow Man develops a purgatory pocket dimension.

The Primus crew will have to fight against zombies and past versions of themselves.

The story takes place at the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Gameplay

The intuitive healing ability employed in other Call of Duty series was not implemented in the Black Ops 4 for players to adjust to a more cautious playing style.

Weapons customization is also highlighted to grant players more freedom of game personalization.

Multiplayer Mode

Blackout: The Blackout Mode is a new battle royale mode that can accommodate up to 100 players simultaneously.

Players descend from the helicopter and search for loot to become the last man standing as they can decide to play as single players, in a team of two, or in four.

This mode also allows players to use vehicles, boats, and aircraft.Zombie: Players are expected to kill Zombies.

Although it is a multiplayer mode, it can be played solo as there are bots to support the original player.

Search and Destroy

Two teams are tasked with destroying an objective or defending it; each player already has the team’s instructions but is tested against it.

Headquarters

Two teams are rutted against each other to capture and hold headquarters to earn points.

A player must maintain the perimeter of a headquarter, stop enemy players from capturing it, and capture other headquarters.

Hardpoint

Hardpoint is an all-action mode where two teams battle for specific locations on a map.

However, there could be only one hardpoint for a team to capture at any time during the match.

A player needs to stay on a hardpoint as long as possible till it his team becomes its controller.

Kill Confirmed

Players pick up dog tags dropped by skilled players to score points.

Red markers signify dead enemy players, while blue tags represent dead teammates.

A player must kill enemy players and pick up their tags while also on the lookout for teammates’ tags.

Domination

Two teams combat in a bid to capture three neutral locations—the more locations held by a team, the more points that team will earn.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Platform

The game was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Still, players on different platforms can play with or against themselves

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Development

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision via the IW engine.

The first Call of Duty series not to have a single-player campaign at the time of its release and Treyarch studio co-head Dan Bunting disclosed the exemption of the campaign was purposeful.

Bunting stated that the Studio had observed a majority of Call of the Duty Black Ops 3’s players had more online multiplayer participation without concluding the single-player campaign; this resulted in their decision to suspend the single-player campaign.

However, Activision has reassured fans of continuing the single-player campaign for upcoming releases.

Black Ops 4 was written by Dave Anthony and Craig Houston, and composed by Jack Wall.
