Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Storyline

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Trailer / Ubisoft North America

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s storyline depicts a Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta that took place 431–422 BCE.

Players assume control of game characters, Kassandra or Alexios, siblings known as the Misthios.

These characters fight either side of the Peloponnesian War, the Delian League, under Athens, or the Peloponnesian League, under Sparta to unite their family after being thrown off a cliff by their stepfather as teens.

Progressively, they travel around Greece, forming alliances with some influential Greek figures and executing others.

After reuniting with their mother and biological father, they are faced with discovering the extinction of a malign cult across Greece, artifacts, and monsters from Atlantean times.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Story Creator Mode

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, players can generate their own stories under the Story Creator Mode feature.

They can also play other players’ stories. Since there are six distinct objectives and a capacity to add over eighty different characters, the game provides each player a chance to create unique stories.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Gameplay

E3 2018 Gameplay / Ubisoft North America

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is primarily a single-player game but supports local multiplayer and split-screen.

Modes

There are two basic ways to play the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey; they are Guided Mode and Exploration Mode.

Players must choose their preferred mode at the menu before gameplay but can switch at any point in the game.

Guided Mode

The Guided Mode is recommended for starters since it is the easiest of the game modes in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Markers and quest objectives are provided to assist players through the game.

Exploration Mode

Exploration is an advanced mode that allows players to use their initiatives. While the game may give quests, objectives aren’t just handed to players.

Instead, broad clues appear at the top left corner of the screen.

The developers mostly recommend this mode as players progress through the game.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Downloadable Content

In December 2018, Ubisoft released Legacy of the First Blade, a downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and released “The Fate of Atlantis” in April 2019.

Both extensions were released for the Xbox, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation platforms.

Below are various Assassin’s Creed Odyssey DLC

Legacy of the First Blade

Legacy of the First Blade links Odyssey to other Assassin’s Creed series.

Gift of the First Blade features three episodes: Hunted, Shadow Heritage, and Bloodline.

Hunted

Hunted’s storyline features one of the Misthios siblings, Kassandra or Alexios, at Macedonia with Assassin Darius’s child.

The Misthios and Darius’s child are known as ‘Tainted Ones’ for their power to destroy the world.

The Tainted Ones and Darius work together in a bid to defeat the Huntsman.

The latter is responsible for a lot of murders.

After the Huntsman’s death, Darius and his child part ways with the Misthios on good terms at Macedonia.

Shadow Heritage

Shadow Heritage’s storyline features the Misthios at Achaea with Darius, and his child denied emigration from the Greek world.

Together with the Misthios, Darius and his child can defeat the Tempest, who had set the blockage order and liberated the refuges she had assaulted.

However, Darius and his child reconsidered their migration and decided to stay with the Misthios in Achaea.

The Misthios later had a son named Elpidios, with Darius’ child.

Bloodline

Bloodline depicts the Misthios life after his mercenary services as he spends time with Darius, Darius’ child, and their son, Elpidios, in Achaea.

The Misthios and Darius migrated to Messenia after Darius’s child had been killed, and the Amorges abducted the Misthios’s son.

Darius agrees to reconcile with Amorges following attempts to kill Amorges.

Amorges discloses Elpidios’ location, and Darius fled with him to Egypt on the Misthios’ instruction.

In Egypt, Darius and Elpidios became ancestors to Aya and the founders of the Assassin Brotherhood.

The Fate of Atlantis

The Fate of Atlantis tells of the Misthios’ mission to unlock the Staff of Hermes’ full power and unlock their secret sixth sense.

The Fate of Atlantis features three episodes: Fields of Elysium, Torment of Hades, and Judgement of Atlantis.

Fields of Elysium

Fields of Elysium portrays Misthios exploring the Greek afterlife and coming across members of the Isu race that humans believe to be gods.

Progressively, it is revealed that the key to Hades, which is an Atlantis artifact, has been hidden in the collar of Ros, a dog owned by Persephone, a member of the Isu race.

Persephone unlocks the Underworld’s entry and throws the Misthios, Ros, and the Apple of Eden inside.

The Torment of Hades

The Torment of Hades’ storyline features the Misthios battling Cerberus, guardian of Tartaros.

After Cerberus’ death, cracks between Tartaros and the Underworld began widening.

The Misthios has to find new guardians for all the entries to the Underworld.

Atlantis’s Judgment

After the Misthios and Poseidon entered Atlantis, Poseidon appoints Dikastes, a human-Isu hybrid as guardian, to suppress both races’ conflicts.

Nevertheless, the disputes never stopped, and Atlantis was destroyed.

However, the Misthios is awoken in the real world and is told that his memories were replicates of Aletheia’s memories as Dikastes.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Review Ratings
  • Control
  • Music/Sound FX/Voice Acting
  • Play Value
  • Graphics
4.9

Summary

Graphics: Players have enough game areas to explore. The game area is rich with islands, vegetations, volumetric clouds, distant architecture, shadows, reflections, and texture detail.

Control: Odyssey’s controls are relatively easy and straightforward. Hints and markers also help players through the game.

Music/ Sound FX/ Voice Acting: Music, FX, and voice acting are standard.

Play Value: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey performs well on PlayStation and Xbox One but does not perform well on an average Windows System. There is a probability that the Odyssey isn’t well optimized because some games requiring the same system requirements still perform better than Odyssey does.

Assassin’s Creed is among other “must-buy” games.
